Have you ever had this experience that you search about a product on amazon and within a few hours you see an ad about the same product on Facebook or Instagram. If you had a similar experience then have you ever wondered how the multi-national companies knows so much about you. This is known as Big Data and today we will discuss about the same.

We live in the information age, now a days with more and more advancements in technology we are now able do so many things instantly which usually took a long time or were very costly a few decades ago. With the technical capabilities we have acquired, the process of data transfer is now a much larger part of our life and so many of our jobs and businesses depend upon data transfer or data storing, with increase in social media usage and more and more data is being created every day they there was ever before, and all of this data is which is stored for future use is known as Big Data, this might consist of  places you visit, photos you like, videos you watch, things you search, products you buy and much more. This might raise a question that what are these companies using all of this data for.?

Big Data could be defined as enormous amount of data which is very complex and is difficult to analyse or understand using traditional methods. To give you slight idea about how much data we create, according to a study conducted by IBM Marketing Cloud  90% of all the data on internet is created after 2016, and as of Q4 2017 we are creating about 2.5 quintilion bytes of data every day which is roughly equal to 2.5 exabytes (2500000000000000000 bytes). This massive amount of data is known as Big Data, this data comes from various sources like Google searches, posts on Facebook and Instagram, videos being uploaded on YouTube and many more, This data is stored by the companies for various purposes like research purposes, to understand their customers, for improving their machine learning algorithms and also for targeted ads.

Data from each and every activity on internet is being stored by the big corporation's, from your location to your images, searches and in some cases even your messages and contacts are being stored, this might seem a bit suspicious but the most bizarre thing is once you post something on internet chances are you can't delete it, yes you can remove it from you public profile but information will stay on the companies servers for years, and multi-national corporations often buy and sell user search data and analytics.

IBM WATSON uses Big Data to improve upon it's ability to understand and solve problems related to business, healthcare, education and much more, Big Data Analytics deals with management of Big Data and finding patterns, meaning and resources within this massive amount of data and use it for meaningful or for the required purposes.

Big Data analytics require special software and skill set and handling Big Data is not an easy task, to deal with the massive amount of data is a huge challenge and is very difficult.
